A crash in the dying stages of Practice 4 has marred the speed shown earlier in the session for Car 5.
Practice 4 was an hour long co-driver only session. The session started in the rain with all teams opting to start on wets. After wet running for most of Thursday, the team opted to park Car 5 in the garage and wait for the circuit to dry up.
As the track dried up teams started to change over to slick tyres and finally get some dry laps in. With the session getting close to the end, Dean posted a 2.07.0757 to jump to 2nd on the time sheet.
Dean: “For the first time, a dry line had appeared. The car felt good and I was pretty comfortable.”
After completing the flying lap, Dean had started another flyer and was up on the previous lap time. As he approached Forest Elbow, the rear stepped out, moving outside of the dry line and onto the wet track. With no grip, the car slid across the track and into the tyre bundle.
Dean: “I was pushing through that sector but when I hit the wet line, it caught me by surprise. Once you’re on the wet stuff there, you’re a passenger. I’m gutted for Mark & the crew. It’s certainly not how I wanted the session to end. Hopefully the damage isn’t too bad and I’ll be jumping in to give the crew a hand to get it back out in time for the next Practice.”
Practice 5 is at 11:15am followed by Qualifying at 3:50pm.
