After a long, tough day at the Mountain, Car 5 has finished in P12.
Starting from P19, the team opted to start Mark in the car. By their first pit stop, Mark had moved up to P15. Dean jumped in the car and with a faultless pit stop from the crew, they rejoined the field in P12.
At Lap 34, the first Safety Car came out and the entire field jumped into the pits. The crew did an incredible stop on Car 55 which meant Car 5 didn’t have to stack during the pit stops. They rejoined the field in P10.
They maintained position and were sitting in P9 when the next Safety Car came out on Lap 76. Unfortunately, in this instance Car 55 and Car 5 were to close on the track and Car 5 was forced to stack. This cost the team valuable time and Car 5 rejoined the field in P13.
Mark and Dean battled with the car all day and a lack of outright pace, eventually bringing it home in P12.
Dean: “It was another frustrating end to the Bathurst 1000. We struggled with outright pace all day. Our straight line speed really hurt us and having to stack just added to the frustration. If we hadn’t had to stack, we might have managed to scrape it into the Top 10 but we didn’t have the pace to finish much higher.”
“There will be a lot to talk about before the Gold Coast and hopefully we can fix up some issues before then. It would be nice to try and salvage something from our enduro campaign.”
The last round of the Pirtek Enduro Cup is the Gold Coast 600 on October 19th – 22nd.
