The first day of the Gold Coast 600 has been a tough one for Dean and Mark Winterbottom as they struggled with pace in all three practice sessions.
Dean started the first practice session, getting in a few laps to bed brakes before Mark jumped in to work on the setup. Both drivers struggled with pace throughout the session and they ended in P15.
The second practice session was a co-driver only session and the only real track time the co-drivers would get before the race on Saturday. Again, Dean struggled with the car ending the session in P22.
The final practice session of the day was open to both drivers but most teams elected to only use their main drivers so they could work on car setup before Saturday’s Qualifying. Mark was still trying to iron out issues with the car, including a lack of pace and they ended the session in P15.
Dean: “It’s always hard when you roll the car out on Thursday and don’t have pace. There’s not a lot of time to work on setup before Qualifying so there will be a lot of work to do over night. The team will make some changes and hopefully we can be closer to the front end tomorrow.”
Saturday at the GC600 sees the Qualifying session, the Top 10 Shootout and then the first race at 2:25pm.
