Dean & Mark have finished in position 7 in the first race of the Gold Coast 600.
After a difficult start on Friday the team were keen to put the previous day behind then and get a decent Qualifying result. With only minutes left in the Qualifying session Mark posted a 1.10.7547 to put him into 7th position but in the dying stages, several drivers posted a time on the final lap, pushing them down the field to an eventual P12.
Dean: “It would’ve been nice to make it to the Shootout. It’s been a tough enduro season so far and we really want to leave here feeling like we’ve achieved something. It’s a long race though so hopefully we can make up some places.”
Most teams elected to start their co-drivers, including Car 5. An early safety car saw the entire field come in for fuel and tyres. This meant a change if fuel strategies and that co-drivers would be doing a larger majority of the race time. Dean handed the car over to Mark on Lap 60 in P9. Mark pushed on eventually finishing in P7.
Dean: “We’d managed to iron out a lot of the issues we were having on Friday but we were still well below the other teams on pace. Luck played our way a bit with other cars getting drive through penalties or being hurt by stacking during the safety car period. There’s one more day left in the Enduro Cup so hopefully we can make more gains overnight and try and salvage something.”
Sunday’s racing schedule is the same as Saturday with a Qualifying session, Top 10 shootout and then the Race at 2:25pm.
