With Dean & Dave starting from Pole position, there was a lot of talk that this was their best chance yet. In their past three times at the mountain they had come oh so close. But unfortunately 2015 again wasn’t their year and they ended the race in 6th.
Dean began the race & managed a perfect start pulling away from the pack quickly. But it didn’t take long for them to catch him & slowly dropped back to 6th place. Dave managed to make some of those spots back during his stint and they stayed with the lead pack for most of the day. At Lap 91, Dean had completed all of his compulsory laps & was ready to hand the car back to Dave to finish the race. But the clouds were looming & it looked like it was time for the wet weather tyres to go on. The rain gods shone their way again & the team were able to change to wets under a planned stop & didn’t have to pit twice. The Bottle-O crew did a blistering stop & despite the rain, things were looking sunny for the Bottle-O team.
Unfortunately with only 20 laps to go, Fabian Coulthard took a dive down the inside pushing Dave wide. The other cars behind took advantage & pushed Dave back to 6th place. It was great for the guys to finish in the top ten but it certainly wasn’t the result they were hoping for.
Dean: “We struggled all week with pace & just couldn’t get it quite right. We knew we didn’t have the pace for the win but thought we could salvage a podium. The dive by Fabian was a bit silly and ended up costing both of us podiums. The team were great, our strategy was great & our pitstops were spot on. I guess there’s always next year.”
