Sunday saw the second race of the Gold Coast 600 & the last race of the Pirtek Endurance Cup. After finishing on the podium the day before, Dean & Dave were hoping to go one better & leave the season with a race win.
Dave put in another solid performance in Qualifying with his time putting them in P9. With no Top 10 Shootout on the Sunday, Dean would start the race from this position.
The team went into the race with a similar strategy to the Saturday race. Dean got a great start & had made up a place by the end of the first lap. Dean handed the car over to Dave on lap 34 in P8.
Safety cars played havoc with teams pit stop strategies & while a couple of teams took a gamble towards the end of the race, the Bottle-O crew took the safe strategy. It turned out that taking a gamble paid off & so they missed out on getting another podium finish & adding to their success from Saturday. They finished the race in P9.
Dean: “It was a bit of a disappointing result. We were on a bit of a high after our podium finish on Saturday and really wanted to keep it going. Unfortunately we chose not to take a gamble with the strategy which hurt us in the end. It’s great to finish in the Top 10 again though.”
Dean & Dave had consistent race finishes across the endurance season with Top 10 finishes in all four of the races. These consistent results gave them a final position of 5th in the Pirtek Endurance Cup for 2015.
Dean: “The endurance season this year was a bit of a mixed bag. At the beginning we were really looking to redeem ourselves from what had been a pretty disappointing season in 2014. Getting on the podium at the Gold Coast was definitely a great feeling. It’s nice to finally give something back to the team for all their hard work & I get another surfboard to add to the wall which is always a good thing!”
That ends the Pirtek Endurance Cup for 2015. Dean’s next V8 Supercar race wont be until the Sandown 500 in September 2016.
