Day One at Barbagallo

Round 3 of the Australian GT Sprint Series kicked off at Barbagallo Raceway today with a practice session & two qualifying sessions.

Andrew Taplin, who’s racing at Perth for the first time, took advantage of the practice session to learn the track.

The weather played havoc with strategies across the day with intermittent rain. The team ended up making the decision to put Andrew in Qualifiying 1 with Dean completing Q2. Andrew’s time put him into 19th place.

Dean: “Although Barbagallo is a short track, it’s very technical. Andrew was still learning the track during his qualifying session and his last lap was his fastest.”

Qualifying 2 looked like it was going to be a dry one but just before the start, the rain came down. Dean went out & pushed hard.

Dean: “The car was quick. I had a small spin and dropped a wheel off the track and got stuck. I went back out and the track started to dry up. I did my fastest lap on the last lap.”

Dean’s fastest time put him into P1. After combining with Andrew’s time, they finished up in P10 for the first race.

Saturday sees one 60 minute race at 12:00pm (WST).
