Dean will compete in the first round of the Australian GT Endurance Championship at Phillip Island this weekend after a late call up from Adelaide businessman, Yasser Shahin.
Dean: “I was chatting to Yasser on the phone the other day & we were chatting about Phillip Island when he suddenly said, “maybe I should race in that” & asked if me if I was free. I will already be there as I’m racing with Andrew Taplin on the Saturday so it all just fell in to place.”
The format for the Australian GT category is a little different at Phillip Island. The Sprint Series will race on the Saturday, completing their 4th round with Endurance Championship racing on the Sunday. Mr Shahin will compete over both the Saturday & Sunday so, strangely, Dean will compete against him on the Saturday before racing with him on the Sunday.
Dean: “I guess it’s a bit odd that we’ll be racing each other one day & then a team the next.”
“Yasser has the same Lamborghini from Reiter Engineering as Andrew & they’re both prepared by Buik Motorworks so it will be easy to jump in & get the job done. I’m looking forward to it”
The Australian GT round at Phillip Island kicks off this Friday 27th May.
