The second round of the Australian GT Championship kicked off yesterday at the brand new The Bend Motorsport Park in Tailem Bend, SA.
This afternoon saw two 30 minutes Qualifying sessions, the first for the PRO drivers and the second for the AM drivers, with the sessions combined to set the grid for tonight’s race.
Dean qualified P6 in his session.
Dean: “I had the fastest first sector but I’m on best lap I ran wide and aborted it. The strong winds caught me out on a corner and ran wide and damaged the floor on a big rock.”
He managed to limp the car back to the pits so the team could start the repair.
Dean: “We only had 15 minutes between each qualifying session and it was to big a job to get the car fixed before Jim’s qualifying session. It’s a crap situation so I’m sorry to Jim for that. It’s going to make it a tough job for tonight.”
Due to team owner, Jim Manolios, not qualifying, the #29 Lamborghini Huracan will start last in tonight’s race.
This particular endurance race is usually a very unusual format with an hour of racing kicking off at 5:20pm tonight. The race will stop at 6:20pm and then racing will resume at 10:45am on Sunday.
